SAN JOSE HILLS, Los Angeles County — Much of the unincorporated West San Dimas area is open space rather than residential streets, according to the county’s East San Gabriel Valley planning documents.
The county describes West San Dimas as approximately 229 acres with a small residential population and a significant part of its land associated with Walnut Creek Park. The parkland is linked to public open-space and watershed conservation efforts.
Why regional open space matters
Protected creek corridors and native hillsides can help maintain wildlife habitat, provide nature access and affect nearby drainage, fire behavior and development standards. Residents should use current county park and land-management information to verify which trails or sections of parkland permit public entry.
The figures above are from the county’s planning study and should not be mistaken for a 2026 census update or a promise that all 229 acres are publicly accessible parkland. Private parcels and public conservation lands can sit alongside each other.
